What does Off the Grid mean?

Off the grid literally means 'from the net'. An off-grid life offers a certain degree of self-sufficiency. People are no longer dependent on external facilities and systems, such as electricity networks, sewage and water networks or gas networks. In addition, an additional advantage is the financial savings. It saves a lot of subscriptions when you lead an off-grid existence.

By using technologies and comfortable modern survival techniques together with the offerings of mother nature, people can now live much more independently than before, which makes it more attractive to organize your own life (increasingly) off the grid.

An off the grid life is also combined with a life outside. Think of a (static) caravan, tiny house, cabin or a detached house somewhere remote. Do you sometimes (or perhaps increasingly) need 'a hut on the heath?' Then we can help you further within our community.

An off the grid / off grid life is becoming aware

Off the grid is a term that is becoming increasingly popular. We notice this within our organization with which we help people on the path of awareness and self-development. More and more often people talk about off the grid living.

There is also a growing desire to become more and more detached from today's society: the performance society. The society we know as 'normal' is taught to us from a young age. From the moment we go to school we get grades and are compared to others. 'You deviate from the average'!

"If you feel that, like us, you want to live differently than 'the average', then you have come to the right place."

Awareness is the common thread in the theme 'off the grid'

The topic of off the grid/off grid is particularly relevant to people who are experiencing or have undergone a process of awareness. Not only do we hear the desire to live off-grid more and more often, we also see more and more groups of people withdrawing from the system. They sell their house or cancel their rent, leave their old life and retreat into nature. Everyone has their own reasons for living off the grid. Performance pressure, the search for health, political distrust and the overstimulation of our busy society are examples of this.

Off the Grid Living in a Tiny House - Self-Sufficient

Why live off the grid?

…from terraced house to cottage in nature

The reasons for a (part-time or full-time) off the grid existence are different and often overlap. For example, one person chooses an independent and more solitary existence. The other wants to live more self-sufficiently and at the same time live efficiently and save costs.

There are also people who increasingly feel aversion to living in the current (performance) society. Why would you work hard to exchange your money for an electricity contract, gas or water, groceries, if you can arrange it yourself (or with your own community)?

Off the grid motivations

Sustainability and environmental awareness:

Today’s conscious people want to reduce their ecological footprint for a better world. They also want to be less dependent on fossil fuels and other non-renewable sources. People who live off-grid use tools and techniques to generate their own electricity using solar energy, wind energy, or running water. They also collect rainwater for use and reduce waste. There are also off-grid communities that recycle their own waste using compost toilets.

Imagine that you no longer get your basic needs such as food / groceries from a supermarket, but obtain them naturally… By living (more) on prana. Many people enjoy the challenge of being self-sufficient and growing their own food, generating energy and fulfilling basic needs without help from 'the system'. Self-sufficiency makes you independent of the big system.

If you are self-sufficient, you are already largely detached from the system. A self-sufficient life combined with a life of prana gives you, for example, the freedom that you no longer suffer from sudden extremely rising energy prices, that you no longer have to wear a face mask to go to the shops, or that you no longer have to pay about a thousand euros per month for groceries!

Financial considerations:

Living off-grid is much cheaper than living in the system. You can easily save thousands of euros on monthly utility bills such as electricity, gas and water. By living on prana you save extra money on groceries and food. It also makes you independent of weather conditions for growing vegetables and fruit, which gives you enormous (financial) freedom.

Self-determination and independence:

Some people want to escape the rat race of modern life, where they feel trapped in an endless cycle of work and consumption. Do you choose to work to live, or live to work? Living off-grid can help them live a more self-determined and simpler life, leaving much more time for the essentials, such as spending time with friends, family or your own community. This creates more connection, a sense of togetherness and unity.

There are also people who choose to go off the grid for political or ideological reasons, such as escaping government regulation or isolating themselves from modern society.

Interested in a healthy life in a hut on the heath?

A hut on the heath, is a phrase you have probably heard or used. An off the grid life can bring you many advantages. You live more simply, on a smaller scale and more in connection with yourself and nature. Now that it is becoming financially more difficult to make ends meet due to inflation and high energy prices and there is hardly any money left for the majority of the population, this is a very nice way to enrich your life, while keeping your monthly costs low.

Some advantages of an off the grid lifestyle can be: consuming less and living more relaxed in nature, great chance to be free of physical and mental complaints. A life without burn-out, ADHD labels and numerous western lifestyle diseases, such as diabetes, chronic stress and cardiovascular diseases, you sit less still and are physically more active.

If you are someone who wants to explore the theme off the grid further, it is advisable to examine the connection with yourself. How do you go through life, how happy are you now and what do you really need to be able to live happily?
